Ed note - I came across this article at a blog site
called "in
the loop diary", created by Jimmy D. Brown and Ryan Deiss, and contacted Jimmy to see if he would allow me to reprint it for
you.
Read what Jimmy has to say, and you'll begin to understand a little bit about
why I rarely publish articles by other authors.
Pssst. Here's a little secret I want to share with
you about internet marketing.
If you want to be wildly successful, INNOVATE.
If you want to be successful, DIFFERENTIATE.
If you want to flat out fall on your face fail, DUPLICATE.
Seriously, that's the whole business philosophy in a nutshell.
Those who are the innovators are those who are the most
successful of them all.
They create the new products. They have the new software. They
build the new technology. They are at the top of the food
chain and no one else comes close to their success. Who makes
the most money, Bill Gates or the local electronics store that sells
his products?
But, unfortunately, there are only a few innovators out there, those
that create things out of thin air.
But, that's okay. Differentiators (Probably a word I just now
made up :-) can be darn successful themselves!
They take existing ideas and technologies and methodologies and they
change them. Sometimes they make them better. Other times they
just make them different. All times they establish themselves
as someone who is unique.
And then, sadly, there are the duplicators. They have nothing
original to offer. They don't take the time to make existing
stuff different. They just duplicate.
------------------------------------
HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION
------------------------------------
Are YOU a duplicator?
Sadly, most people are. And here are a few *hints* that will
let you know if you are one of them:
You might be a duplicator if (See how I took an existing idea from
"Jeff FoxworthY" and changed it?)...
- Your newsletter only publishes other people's
articles.
- You only sell products you purchased reprint
rights to sell.
- Your affiliate advertising consists of the ads
your program supplied.
- Your favorite keyboard keys are CTRL-C and
CTRL-V (Copy and paste)
- You buy all of your subscribers through a
co-registration service.
- You use only free graphics at your website and
in your ebooks.
- You sent out the same "Free Agent
Path" email that everyone else did.
Look, here's the thing: I publish other people's
articles. I sell products that I bought reprint rights to
sell. I publish the standard ads at times. And I've been
known to use free graphics.
BUT, that's not the NORM. I don't CONSISTENTLY do those
things. And I certainly don't "ALWAYS" do those
things.
Reader, it's YOUR time to do something. Don't be a
duplicator. Be an innovator ... or, at least, a
differentiator!
- Write your own articles!
- Create your own products!
- Write your own affiliate ads!
- Leave that Control button alone!
- Build your lists in many ways!
- Learn how to design your own graphics!
- And for goodness sake, stop sending out the
same "Free Agent Path" email!
Smile :-)
Seriously, I don't care who you are, you have the power to be
YOU. You have the ability to share something of importance and
significance. You can touch lives and change lives by the very
thoughts inside of you.
Let them come out. Express yourself. Stand up and be
counted. And prosper because of it.
If possible, lead the way. Be an innovator
and show us things we've never seen before.
If not, then change the way. Be a differentiator and
show us things in a way we've never seen before.
Just be you ... in your own unique, exclusive, different way.
And apply that to everything you do.
And don't forget, unless your last name is Xerox, don't be a
duplicator.
Because that, my friend, is the...
